Mode Journal, founded by Anna Trevisan and Sarah Kehr, is an independent, self-published project dedicated to critical writing at the intersection of technology, fashion, and beauty.

The chosen name reflects the layered meanings the term carries across languages, practices and conceptual contexts which shape our thinking. In Italian and German, the authors’ respective mother tongues, mode refers to trends and fashion, which are situated within shifting aesthetic, cultural, and material currents. In English, our shared language through which this journal is articulated, mode carries a technological resonance, pointing towards interfaces, operational states, and ways of functioning. Bound together, these meanings frame the shifting conditions under which bodies, systems, and forms of knowledge are produced, circulated, and rendered intelligible, framing the conceptual terrain in which this project unfolds.
